HISTORY
The idea of starting a scientific periodical that would be a place to exchange knowledge within the spheres of pedagogy and similar fields emerged in 1992. The first editorial board, under the leadership of professor Roman Schulz, was made up of prof. Czesław Kossakowski, dr Adam Marszałek, prof. Józef Półturzycki, prof. Andrzej Wojtas and dr Jan A. Malinowski. It was an answer to the crisis in pedagogical and humanistic literature. According to Programme Statement “‘Culture and Education’ quarterly has been designed as a periodical of nationwide range to satisfy the needs of its readers; especially those interested in the past, present and the future of education development as an integral element of culture.” In the first years, the character of the quarterly was clearly pedagogical. The function of the editor in chief was fulfilled successively by prof. Półturzycki, prof. Aleksander Nalaskowski, prof. Wiesław Ciczkowski, prof. Ryszard Borowicz. Culture and Education has a regular structured format yet with constantly changing content. In each issue one can find Articles-Studies, Communiques, Special Communiques and Reviews-Reports.
In the course of time “Culture and Education” has evolved from being just Nicolaus Copernicus University “pedagogical circle’s journal” (as prof. Kwieciński – the reviewer in the first 15 years of publishing activity – points out) into a resilient quarterly, in which the results of research conducted in various academic centers, home and international, covering several disciplines are presented. The wide range of subjects forms new frameworks that determine the outline of periodical.
The grading scale granted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education is evidence of the substantial and high quality of the quarterly. Since 2010 an electronic version of the periodical has been developed. Our archive now contains contributions published since 2004.
